I just stumbled across this document. I too need to generate a unique code so when a lead is sent to one of our contractors to follow up on, we can provide them a unique reference number for that lead. For those in our database that fill out a specific 'lead' form, their contact details will automatically be sent to our contractors & their unique reference numbers.
I believe I have 3 options?:
- Use the Unique ID that everyone is given when entered into an Eloqua database as the unqiue lead reference number
- Add another field in Eloqua & manually assign everyone in the targeted segment a number I manually allocate.
- Use Sachin's technique - Add the javascript Ryan recommended to the <head> of the landing page the form sits on.
- Create a Custom Object to store the data in
- Possibly use the Cloud Connector Data Card Evaluator which will which me to pull data from Data Cards into the Contact record so I can send personalized emails that contain data from a Contact's associated data cards.
A few questions:
- Am I on the right path if I were to do the automatically generated reference number?
- Is the script within the <HTML> tag needed if using Ryan's version of the <head> tag script?
- For my purpose would it be just as effective yet easier to do option 2 above - manually assign everyone a unique number so it can be used as a reference for a speific campaign.
