It means your lead must have an equivalent entity of contact and contact must be linked to an account.
For Eg: if xyz@domain.com is to be created a lead, then xyz@domain.com must a contact and must be under an account. I am not sure why this was setup in Salesforce and this is really really weird. You should change your settings in SFDC. This is not a best practice.
