Form validation using a customized Eloqua form - do-able?

I read other Topliner articles where people were extending Eloqua's built-in form validation, but I'm having a hard time even getting the basics done.

I've created my form in Eloqua and applied the validation I need.  I then copied the form HTML, as I needed to radically alter the layout (put it into a table, etc.) but will still be using it in an Eloqua landing page.  It seems like all the pieces I need (CSS, js, etc.) are there and just need to be loaded into the head, CSS and js editors in the Eloqua landing page, but my validation does not work after I do this.

First, am I right in thinking I should be able to do this?  And if so, do you have a step-by-step of what needs to go where?  My form is being submitted and the data collected, so I know I have that much right, it's just the validation part I'm hung up on.

I tried support, but they considered this custom coding so declined to help.  I also noticed that on a standard LP with form, the LiveValidation script is called after the form, but the editor won't accept the script tag below the HTML (in a text box).

Thanks,

Jim
